The fork is a common utensil found on the dinning tables in the West. The first known fork in America was on June 25, 1633, when governor John Winthrop introduced what was then called the “split spoon“. In the American colonies, the fork was seen as a devil’s instrument and most people used spoons. Usage of the fork developed differently in Europe than in America. Each side to this fork controversy see the other as using the fork incorrectly. Typically, Americans use it similar to a spoon and see Europeans as holding the fork upside down. Which way is correct? Which way do you hold the fork?
