I Remember A Time

I remember a time when music played within my head. It was not the music of others, replayed for my enjoyment. I was my music. It danced. It charmed. It played throughout my being. It was my music.

More than once were the attempts to put it on paper for others to play. All attempts feel short of the heard music. The skills for transcription were too weak to prevail. More skills were acquired. More attempts were made. All failed too.

The failures lead to frustation. The music was sweet. The music was beautiful. It required sharing. It fought to get out. New mediums were pursued. The music changed. Results were far fleeting and mixed. Eventually the music died down as the music of others grew louder. The music that was a part of me became replaced. Childhood dreams replaced with the realities of life. The music grew quieter. The music did not die.

The music rose again when change was desired. The music again sought an avenue for sharing. It grew again to the front. Again it was not understood. Again it failed to gather desire, gather acceptance. The music is still a part of me. It still desires to be shared.

The music will build others. The music will inspire others. The music will lead others to their own paths. The music will produce music for others. The music will become.

Let the music out.

Don’t Tell Me What You Want!

maybe she is dreaming of better days? — thank you to my girlfriend for being such a patient model! (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

It is heard all too often. I want a new house. I want to be debt free. I want a fancy car. I want to send my kids to a better school. All dreams. Not goals. All daydreams. All wants. No plan. No action. Just wants. Just weak wants. Ugh!

Don’t tell me what you want! I don’t want to hear what you want! Don’t tell me what you want to have or do or see or be or whatever. Wants are useless. Wants are worthless. Get rid of your wants. Drop them. They will only lead you to disappointment and despair.

Get Deeper!

Now, go for a desire. Not some pie-in-the-sky want. Go for what you deeply desire. Define every aspect of it. See it. Feel it. Smell it. Taste it. Now, are you ready to work for it?

If you are not willing to put everything you have into what you desire the most, it is a worthless desire to you. Move on. Find something else.

What are you willing to work for? What are you willing to work harder than you ever have in your life for? What will drive you to push until you have it?

Now that you have the desire, let’s talk.

Announcing a new video challenge

It is time for something different. It is time to push the boundaries of our experiences. It is time to get out of our comfort zones. It is time for a video challenge. It is time for the June 2012, Video Challenge!

There have been other challenges on YouTube. Some were to make a video a day. Others to shoot twice a week. Some were on a give topic: photography, marketing, introductions, etc. Others had none. This challenge needs to be something different. Something not yet seen. Something real.

Today I did shoot the video announcing the challenge and it will get created and posted. Here is the announcing blog post. What better place than a blog about the future? What are the rules, you ask? They are quite simple.

Rules for the challenge

  1. Have fun – above anything, before everything, have fun making your videos.
  2. Do anything – make a video about cheese, make one showing the wind, it doesn’t matter. Make what ever you want. Capture motion, computer generated, PowerPoint screen capture, it doesn’t matter.
  3. Get out of your box – do something you’ve never done before, go somewhere you’ve never been. Usually make videos inside? Go out? Like the outdoors, do one in the city. Use new techniques and ideas. Explore. Expand.
  4. Runs to the end of June, 2012

That’s it, other than the YouTube guidelines, of course. Post one a day or six. Post as much and as little as you like. It doesn’t matter. The whole point of the challenge is to get out there and go stuff.

Ready. Set. Go!
